We’re very much aboard the gourmet sandwich bandwagon that’s been making its way around Sydney lately. Fresh deli meats, creamy cheeses and fresh bread… what’s not to love? Come lunchtime, we often find ourselves craving one.
As Newtown residents, we’ve hit out local streets trying to find the best bites around. Here are our six favourite places to get a sandwich nearby.

Lu’s Deli
Address: Shop 1/52-60 Enmore Rd, Newtown NSW 2042
Hours: 8am-3pm from Tuesday to Saturday, 8am-2pm on Sunday (It’s also open for dinner Thursday to Saturday , but sandwiches aren’t availale.)
Prices: $18-$24
Gluten-free available? Yes for $2 extra.
Originally running a restaurant in Bronte, the team behind Lu’s Deli has received a very warm welcome from us in Newtown. The deli serves up sandwiches on fresh focaccia (or sourdough for an extra $2). And, they’re pretty big. If you don’t have a big appetite, they’re definitely shareable… maybe leaving a bit of room for some of the sweet treats they often have at the counter. (We’re often eyeing the scrolls.)

Found in the entryway to one of our favourite cocktail bars, Huelo, this deli serves up fresh sandwiches almost every day from 12pm. While you’re waiting for the master to prepare your lunch, have a browse of the provisions they sell, too. From tinned fish to fresh pickes, there’s plenty of unique items to choose from. Once freshly made, the sandwiches are served up with a handful of chips, too. Being a bar, if you’d like a nice glass of wine or cocktail with it, they’ve got you.

Dangerously close to home for us, AP Town is one of the many AP Bakeries scattered around the city. While the sandwiches aren’t nearly as drool-worthy as the flatbreads, they’re still pretty darn good. The fresh-baked bread combined with quality ingredients have added AP to our regular sandwich roster.
