We admit, we’re *not* huge zoo people, typically favouring national parks and wilderness adventures to unnatural habitats. But, we’ve got to admit it. Australia does know how to make a great zoo. And Sydney’s home to more than a handful of them. Six, in fact.
From intimate set ups that let you feed kangaroos from the palm of your hand to world-class exhibits that get you an iconic snapshot of giraffes with the skyline as the backdrop, there’s a zoo in Sydney for everyone.

Unfortunately, nowhere. It’s against the law for the public to hold a koala in New South Wales, the state that Sydney is in. This isn’t the case Australia-wide though. Queensland, South Australia, and Western Australia do allow this, and experiences can be booked at zoos and wildlife centres in those states.
WILD LIFE Sydney is by far the most accessible zoo in the city, being a short walk from Town Hall Station in the CBD. Taronga Zoo is a close second, with regular buses along with ferries available from Circular Quay offering an incredibly scenic way to arrive.
