Sitting just west of Sydney but a world away, the Blue Mountains region is home to 11,400 square kilometres of rugged mountain valleys filled with waterfalls, eucalyptus forests and unique wildlife. A popular getaway for city dwellers and tourists alike, the region’s towns are set up perfectly to accommodation for weekends away.
Blue Mountains itineraries to explore
- Western Blue Mountains: Beyond Katoomba and Blackheath, there’s still plenty more to discover in the lesser-visited parts of the western Blue Mountains before descending into Lithgow. The area is home to the Jenolan Caves, Japanese Bathhouse and, of course, many bushwalking trails.
- Bells Line Road:
- Classic Blue Mountains road trip: Where most tourist’ day trips take visitors by the busload, consider the classic journey to Wentworth Falls, Leura and Katoomba.
- Lower Blue Mountains: Much closer to the city and at a lower elevation than the well-beaten track, there’s plenty to do and see in the first few towns up the mountains, like Glenbrook.
